The PNW Section doubled down in November with a second meeting, a basic
soldering workshop. Led by PNW committeeman Rick Chinn (Uneeda Audio),
participants were invited to bring their own tools - or not, and be instructed
on basic microphone cable building, with connectors and cable provided free
courtesy of an anonymous donor. Some 10 AES members and 12 nonmembers attended
at the Shoreline Community College music building in Shoreline, WA.
Rick presented a tutorial on soldering basics, such as the essentials on wire
and cable, connectors, tools and solder metallurgy. A video camera showed closeups
of his live demos. Several equipped stations were available for persons without
their own tools. By the end of the evening, participants had a working XLR cable
and a copy of the book, "The Artful Solderer" by Lee Tingler.
Door prizes:
- The Artful Solderer book by Lee Tingler (From Uneeda Audio) - Bob Smith
- Solder Buddy wood jig by Tingler Innovations (From Uneeda Audio)- Scott Waters
- Weller soldering station (donated by Westlake Electronic Supply ) - Tom Stiles
