Dan Mortensen, PNW Chair, opened the meeting to about 42 attendees, including quite a few Shoreline music technology students. He introduced Shoreline student and retiree Ken Meyer, who mentioned activities of the Shoreline Field Audio Recording Club, and movement for an AES Student Section at Shoreline. Dan called for the usual self-introductions from all attendees. Dan then also thanked member James (JJ) Johnston for his recent work as Papers Chair at the just-finished 119th AES Convention in New York.

Meeting coordinator/PNW Committee member Dr. Michael Matesky introduced the evening's speakers, Ed McNichol and Clark Schroeder. Ed spoke on his experiences as a video producer using the Apple Soundtrack Pro software for video productions, using examples on his laptop. He cited the precision audio editing, sweetening capabilities, and integration with other software like video editors as some reasons why he liked it.

After an intermission for snacks, door prize drawings were held. Winners were:

Clark Schroeder then spoke after intermission. Clark is an ASC (Apple Solutions Consultant) at a local CompUSA store, and a musician and project studio owner. He spoke on Apple's Logic Pro software, a professional-grade application for music creation and audio production. He mentioned music composing and easy lead sheet printing, surround capabilities, integration with other software such as video editing applications, and use of common synthesizer library formats. He did some demonstrations of a project from PNW Committee member Dr. Mike Matesky's at his Opus 4 Studio.

Unfortunately, what was later determined to be a cabling error prevented demonstrating with an external control surface, and the older iBook proved to be underpowered for extensive demonstrations. Time limitations prevented seeing too much of Logic Pro, and from introducing the simpler Garageband application. However, he invited anyone with production questions to contact him at work, whether product or brand specific or not.
