With Scott Meheren's resignation late last year (he took a job in the Bay Area), his committee seat became available, and at our June election, we neglected to fill the seat. Thus, we are conducting a special election to fill that empty seat.

Committee members serve for two years at a time, and half of the seats elect in any calendar year. The seats are numbered, from 1 to 10, with even numbered seats electing in even-numbered years, and odd numbered seats electing in odd-numbered years. The empty seat is position 3, so it will stand for election again in 2015.

You must be a member (member or associate; students may not vote) to vote in this election. If you can't attend the meeting to vote in person, then you can vote by mail by downloading a ballot here  and returning it by mail to the address shown. It must be in our hands by noon on the 18th. There is provision made for a write-in.

Chris Deckard

Although I was more content to take apart my toys as a kid rather than play with them, I was sure to put the cassette recorder back together. Thus began my infatuation with audio and electronics. After playing in various high school bands, I decided to put together a recording studio in South Saint Louis, where I focused on an organic approach to recording involving an MS16 and EMT140 in a large storefront space built in 1893. After some time, I decided to sell off the studio, get an EE, and go into designing audio equipment. After a failed attempt to get an internship at Saint Louis Music (this was about the time they were acquired by LOUD Technologies), I realized I'd have to move to Seattle to work for an audio company. While finishing the EE program at UW, I worked for a HiFi repair shop and modified a PM2000 console for a local studio. After graduating, I worked at a machine company wiring industrial robots. I currently work at LOUD/Mackie in Woodinville as a digital design engineer in the acoustics department, although I'm interested in analog design as well.

My current personal endeavors include a SET (single-ended triode) microphone preamp; various audio analysis tools in MATLAB and MAX/msp; a filter board for the HP8903 audio analyzer; a bluetooth speaker; a mic preamp based on THAT corporation chips; and of course, a record label. I attended my first AES meeting over 10 years ago, and have been hooked ever since!

Stephen DeVore

Hi! I am Stephen DeVore. I have been an AES member for many years, starting in 1997 or before. I have a Degree in MIDI, one in Audio Engineering (3.9GPA), the UW Certificate in Sound Production (1997), and several certificates from The Recording Workshop (OH) and in Pro Tools (through 210P & M). I compose music, play & sing, been in several choirs, have recorded/mixed several artists, am a filmmaker, have submitted compositions for indie film, took several years of college music theory and the PNW Film Scoring Summer Intensive (2005), and recently took the "Hayride" seminar/workshop with Steve Fisk, John Goodmanson, and Steve Turnidge.

I am and have been a member of several related industry organizations (e.g., NARAS, SIFF, NWFF, etc.). I have residences in Seattle, and also Tacoma. I have a passion for multimedia, and over the years have attended several AES Conventions, NAMM, Surround, NAB, CES (2013), others, and many AES PNW meetings, letting people know about them on my industry Page on Facebook (facebook.com/avpnw) and in my personal profile. I would like to further help by working with the local AES leaders, and would love to have your vote to do this today!

Tom Stiles

Tom Stiles is a recording engineer and workshop instructor at Jack Straw Cultural Center, the Northwest's non-profit audio arts center. He also does live sound and video work for the Seattle Center Sound Department. He has recorded numerous artists in many musical genres in many locations around Puget Sound and the Pacific Rim. He is a past PNW Section Chair and committee member.
