The Vidikron VPF Helios ($14,000) is an excellent example of a light-valve front projection television with the capability of displaying images from 30 to 225 inches (diagonal) on any video system. The VPF Helios features synchronized dual integrated DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) circuits. One DMD modulates red light and the second modulates green and blue. A screen is also needed to complete this package. Screens are available from Vidikron staring at $199 and going up to $1,800 depending on matte, grain, and finish. Vidikron has added several video enhancement circuits to improve picture quality. These include a chroma decoder (which brings the image closer to film-quality), a glass comb filter, and aperture correction (which increases the definition at the edges of darker areas). As with most front-projection TVs, this model can be either floor- or ceiling mounted (hardware included). Depending on the video source, the set has the capability of displaying up to 800"600 pixels, pumping 400 footlamberts of brightness (with the use of a line doubler from either Vidikron or Faroudja). The VPF Helios includes one S-video input, one video input, one stereo/audio input, one VGA/S-VGA input, one component video input, and one stereo/audio output. Surprisingly enough, the unit includes an internal audio amplifier for the attachment of speakers. A full-function remote is also included. As with all front-projection TVs, the Vidikron VPF Helios must be viewed in a darkened room. | With the world's most advanced optical system, the VISION ONE offers Scheimpflug-design lens adjustments which assures perfect corner-to-corner focus. A nine-zone electronic astigmatism correction system assists the Scheimpflug's adjustments in delivering amazing picture sharpness from the extra-large, liquid-coupled 9" tubes and 10" fl.1 lenses. The VISION ONE offers a full array of subtle adjustments: Advanced active adjustments under computer control include automatic contrast modulation, assuring uniform picture brightness, even at the edges and corners of the screen. In addition, the VISION ONE provides complete "gamma" correction for color balance at all brightness levels and vertical linearity assuring that objects and people are always in correct proportion. Individually, each of these refinements is a major breakthrough. Collectively, they are sensational news. Founded in 1977, Vidikron was initially an audio/video manufacturing subcontractor for such international companies as Hitachi, Aiwa, Pioneer and Philips. In the early 1980s Vidikron began developing and manufacturing their own high-performance video projectors in Milan, Italy. By 1988, Vidikron had commissioned Pininfarina (designers of Ferrari automobiles) to create signature body designs for their video projectors. The result is a series of sleek-styled projectors that are as beautiful on the outside as the pictures they produce. In that same year, 1988, Vidikron also opened their American operations in New York. For over two decades, Vidikron's reputation for unrivaled quality has steadily grown. Today, Vidikron is available in over 42 countries. The most esteemed reviewers for every major home theater magazine (and other publications) have made Vidikron the most desired name in home theater. As the recipient of every major award in the industry, you will find Vidikron projectors in the home theaters of internationally acclaimed directors...such as Martin Scorsese.
