Carter lost the "Amy debate" on TV, broadcast from the Cleveland Music Hall Oct. 28, sponsored by the League of Women Voters, moderated by Howard K. Smith, with 2 questions each from Marvin Stone of US News, Harry Ellis of the Christian Science Monitor, William Hillard of the Portland Orgonian, and Barbara Walters of ABC.

Reagan/Bush defeat Carter/Mondale 50.7% to 41% 489-49 electoral votes; Independent John Anderson won 6.6% of popular vote, and Libertarian Ed Clark won 1.1%
